This is a pencil drawing of Lodge John O' Groat dated around 1965, which can be seen hanging above the Junior Wardens chair, and was drawn by Bro. George Hanlay Scott. As you can see he has depicted the Lodge as it would have looked before the extensions to the Lodge were added. Bro.Scott moved to Thurso from the Stirling-shire area to work in Dounreay, where he served as transport manager. He was a regular visitor to Lodge John O' Groat and had made many friends in the County, and lived to the ripe old age of 82, when he was summoned to the Grand Lodge above.

The building was originally a Church built for the breakaway sect of the Church of Scotland who were called the Seceeders, and this was built around 1850/60.
The building is of standard stone construction. The original shape of the building is lost due to the other extensions added to it over the years.
