THE WICK PETITION OF 1795
Unto the Most Worshipful the Grand Master the Depute & Substitute Grand Masters Worshipful Wardens & remanent Brethren of the Grand Lodge of Scotland
The Petition of Baillie William McLeay of Wick Mr. John Durrand Mercht.there Lieut. Robt.Kennedy residing at Wick Alexr,Sinclair younger of Harpsdale James Sinclair William Horne & Ben.Calder Esq.all Masters Masons for themselves and in name of several other freemasons residing in and about the Burgh of Wick in the County of Caiths. Humbly Sheweth
That the Petitioners who are anxious to promote the prosperity and welfare of Masonry in general and the benefit of the Grand Lodge in particular and who owing to the great distance they are Situated from any regular Lodge and deprived of any opportunity of meeting and Communicating with any Established Society of their Brethren, and thereby promoting and encouraging those principles of universal Benevolence and harmony which are and ever have been the distinguishing Characteristicks of free Masons, are therefore induced to make this humble application for holding a Lodge in the said Burgh of Wick under the Stile and Tittle of Saint Fergus's Lodge at Wick and they propose the said Baillie William McLeay for Master Ben Calder for Depute Master Jas. Sinclair and W.Horne for Wardens John Durrand Treasurer Robert Kennedy for Secretary Alexr.Miller & Harry Bain Merchts. in Wick for Stewards & John Rhind Mason in Wick for Tyler
May it therefore please the Most Worshipful the Grand Lodge aforesaid to Grant a. Charter of Constitution and Erection to the Petitioners for holding a regular Lodge in the said of Wick under the Stile & Tittle foresaid.with all the usual powers - and your Petitioners shall ever pray &c.
